Enhancements in Biometric Functionality - Allowing Directors to Opt for Biometric Authentication in Their Home State
What if your Director from Delhi had to fly to Gujarat… just for Biometric Authentication?
Sounds exhausting, right? Well, here's some good news for companies dealing with such situations! Earlier, if your GST registration application got flagged for Biometric Authentication, the selected Promoter/Director had no choice but to visit the designated GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) mapped to the business's jurisdiction.
Meaning... if your business address is in Gujarat but your Director lives in Delhi — hello, last-minute travel plans! But not anymore.
GSTN has now introduced an additional facility allowing certain Promoters/Directors to complete their Biometric Authentication at any GSK in their Home State.
This facility applies to individuals listed in the Promoter/Partner tab for the following types of businesses:
• Public Limited Company
• Private Limited Company
• Unlimited Company
• Foreign Company
Under this enhancement, such Promoters/Directors can now choose any available GSK within their Home State in India (as per REG-01) for Biometric Authentication.
So, if your Director's home state is Delhi, they can pick any GSK in Delhi and get it done there. Just follow the instructions in the email you receive from GSTN and select your preferred GSK in your Home State.
But hey, a few quick heads-up:
• If biometric authentication is needed, an email will be sent with the option to choose a GSK in the home state.
• Promoters/Directors must follow the email instructions to select a GSK within their home state.
• One-time selection – once a GSK is chosen, it cannot be changed.
• Facility available in 33 States/UTs (excluding Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Sikkim for now).
• After selecting the GSK, a confirmation email and slot booking link will be sent.
• Promoters/Directors can book a slot as per availability at the selected GSK.
• Biometric and photo capture will be done at the selected home-state GSK.
• If biometric is already completed, no need to do it again.
• If Promoter/Director = PAS (same person), this home state option is not available.
• It's better if biometric is completed before PAS visits for document verification.
• Choosing home-state GSK is optional – you can still go to the jurisdictional GSK.
GST compliance made a little easier!!
For those managing GST registrations, this small change can save a lot of time, cost, and travel stress.
What do you think of this update? Have you ever dealt with the hassle of sending Directors across states just for biometrics?
